While Auburn players are certainly happy to be bowling, the draw of playing in Friday’s Music City Bowl means that players are spending Christmas in Nashville instead of back home.
At a recent media opportunity, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn told reporters that Monday night there is a “program” scheduled to serve as a team celebration.
“Just kinda maybe sing some Christmas carols, stuff like that, have a few games to play,” Malzahn said, per Brandon Marcello. “Really more than anything we get to spend some quality time together and we’ll give them a chance after the program to spend time with their families and then Christmas morning we’ll give them couple extra hours so they can spend time with their families.”
After family time, it will be back to the field for a Tuesday afternoon practice. The team will have a Wednesday morning practice and attend a Music City Bowl “welcome party” Wednesday evening.
While there’s no substitute for the comfort of home sweet home, Tigers players are getting to stay at the luxurious Gaylord Opryland Resort. A Christmas in Nashville will likely be worth it for players if they can end the 2018 campaign with a win over Purdue.
