Heading into its trip to Athens to take on Georgia, Auburn is looking to its wide receivers to step up and help the offense improve. It will need to do so in support of Bo Nix, who entered the season with plenty of national attention but was just 16-of-27 for 233 yards despite 3 touchdowns against Kentucky in a 29-13 win.

During his weekly “Tiger Talk” call-in show ahead of the Tigers’ game against the Bulldogs, Gus Malzahn spoke about the importance of the depth of their receiving unit, but also noted the strength of the Bulldogs defense.

“It’s a matter of us protecting the football, and we have to create some explosive plays,” he said, according to AL.com.

While Seth Williams made 6 catches for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns last Saturday against Kentucky, Malzahn stated that players like Anthony Schwartz, who made 3 catches for 40 yards, could have more chances with the football against the Bulldogs.

“There’s no doubt,” he said. “He’s electric with the ball in his hands. You’ll see him as more of a focal point as the season goes on.”

Malzahn also said that Shedrick Jackson, who dressed out for the game against the Wildcats but did not see the field, would be available to play on Saturday.
