An up-and-down October ended with a bye week for Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers. AU suffered back-to-back losses to Mississippi State and Tennessee, but bounced back with a win over Ole Miss.
The Tigers return to action Saturday hosting a Texas A&M team looking to rebound from a loss to MSU. On the weekly SEC media teleconference, Malzahn shared his thoughts on the Aggie and the latest on Tigers RB Boobee Whitlow.
On having success after a bye:
- I think it’s the self-scout you get to do… more time to game plan and healing up for a week.
On facing Jimbo Fisher for the first time since BCS championship game against FSU:
- Every time you face a coach you’ve seen, you do refer back to that to get a feel for that coach.
On RB Boobee Whiltow, battling injury:
- Yes, he practiced, but he was limited.
On whether Whitlow is still day-to-day:
- He is.
On Texas A&M’s defense:
- They are first in the league against the run, very physical. They are hard to move. Their linebackers are playing at a high level. I think they have a lot of guys that have played a lot of football.
On being balanced on offense:
- I think to have a chance to be successful, you have to run the ball. you can’t be one-dimensional
On Texas A&M Kellen Mond:
- I’ve always been impressed with him. he had some growing pains last year but he’s fit in that offense, he hangs in there and he’s a true dual-threat guy.
On the visitor winning every year in this game:
- We need to change that.
