It has been an up and down season for Auburn RB Kamryn Pettway, who has battled injuries all year.
However, he still scored six touchdowns in limited action, but based on the strength of his 2016 season, he’s decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn released a statement wishing Pettway the best following the star back’s decision on Wednesday night, per an email from the university:
“I appreciate Kam Pettway’s time at Auburn,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. “When healthy, he was a dominant running back. We’ll be rooting for him moving forward and wish him nothing but the best.”
Prior to the Peach Bowl, it was reported that Pettway was no longer welcome with the team. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Malzahn’s statement about Kerryon Johnson when he decided to declare for the draft was much more heartfelt:
“Kerryon has made this team better both on and off the field with his character, competitiveness and leadership.”

Now, it’ll be up to Pettway to prove he won’t be a problem in the locker room or health-wise as he prepares to embark on an NFL career.
