On the surface this week, Auburn doesn’t appear likely to beat Georgia or Alabama. But college football handicapper is more of an optimist, or at least a realist, when it comes to Auburn against its arch-rivals late in the season.

He thinks the Tigers can beat Alabama and Georgia.

“I think they are very capable of giving Alabama a run for the money because they have nothing to lose,” Sheridan told AL.com. “And, Alabama could probably afford a loss and still go to the SEC Championship Game.”

Alabama would be a double-digit favorite over Auburn based on the “public’s perception,” while Georgia would be a four to six-point favorite over Auburn, up from three points in the preseason.

“I do think they have a great shot of upsetting Georgia in Athens and decent shot of beating Alabama. Not because they are better, but it is very possible Auburn rolls in with nothing to lose. Alabama goes in and loses but will stay make the SEC Championship Game.”
