Many college football coaches are reluctant to share any information publicly regarding injuries. If it’s in the press, the opposing coaching staff is sure to find out and adjust its game plan.
It’s one thing to be purposely vague in describing injuries or always say injured players are questionable to play. Hawaii took it a few steps further on Saturday, deceiving the opponent in warm-ups with some uniform trickery.
Hawaii did not want Wyoming to know that starting QB Cole McDonald was injured. The coaching staff’s solution was to send a backup out to the field for warm-ups in McDonald’s jersey.
Hawaii went on to win the game 17-13.
Will these kind of tactics be coming to an SEC stadium near you? We’ll see:
Hawaii starting QB Cole McDonald’s injury was kept a secret up until kickoff, and even went as far as having a backup wear his jersey during pre-game warm-ups: (h/t /u/Jah-Eazy) https://t.co/bo7xZaFBir
