They money is beginning to flow to a select few college athletes who have a platform, or following, to cash in for their sponsors. The most lucrative?
Hercy Miller, the son of rapper Master P, has signed the most lucrative sponsorship deal in the early portion of the name, image and likeness, or NIL, era in college sports. The 6-foot-3, 160-pound point guard out of Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis will make $2 million on the deal with Web Apps America, according to his father.
Miller is committed to Tennessee State University, where he’ll play in the fall.
“It’s incredible. This is gonna change the way college athletes want to stay in school,” Master P told TMZ Sports.
His son added, “I signed a deal with an American technology company. Like my dad said, it’s a blessing.”
Miller has 127,000 followers on Instagram, and 21,000 followers on TikTok.
“I learned from my dad, I’m gonna start off by giving back to the community and everyone around me. I have a camp July 21,” Hercy told TMZ. “I’m giving back to the kids. Giving school supplies.”
Hercy added that he’s also going to treat himself to a Tesla.
Miller held offers from USC, UCLA, LSU and Missouri, among others, before ultimately choosing Tennessee State, per 247Sports. According to USCFootball.com’s Chris Trevino, Hercy grew up in Southern California, but the Miller family moved to the Minneapolis area last fall because of a family member’s illness. Hercy initially attended Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, and his younger brother, Mercy, transferred to Minnehaha High this past season.
