The College Football Playoff rankings were revealed with the first edition of the 2023 season dropping Tuesday evening.
When those rankings were released, Ohio State claimed the first No. 1 spot on the committee’s list. Georgia, Michigan and Florida State followed at No.’s 2-4 while Washington and Oregon were the first teams outside the top group.
While the 4-team format is being used again this season, fans cannot help but look forward to the introduction of the 12-team format down the road. ESPN’s Greg McElroy shared what the 12-team bracket would look like using Tuesday’s rankings, and it is a sight to behold.
Using Tuesday’s format, the teams receiving first-round byes would be Ohio State, Georgia, Florida State and Washington. Though Michigan is No. 3, the assumption for this purpose is that Ohio State would be the Big Ten champion, pushing the Wolverines into an at-large bid and No. 5 seed.
Below is a glimpse at what the first-round matchups and seeding would be for a 12-team Playoff while Mizzou and Louisville would be the first teams left out of the field:
- No. 12 Tulane at No. 5 Michigan
- No. 9 Oklahoma at No. 8 Alabama
- No. 11 Penn State at No. 6 Oregon
- No. 10 Ole Miss at No. 7 Texas
I’m going to continue to embrace the current format…..
But…. It’s just so beautiful. pic.twitter.com/i1ewfHIW2e
