It looks like ultimate bragging rights will be on the line when Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky take the field Saturday.
This week will be a bit different for Kentucky QB Drew Barker and Eastern Kentucky WR Cameron Fogle. The two grew up together as friends and currently share an off-campus apartment, but they will face each other on the playing field Saturday.
Jennifer Smith with the Lexington Herald-Leader shared the story.
The matchup is also interesting because Fogle previously played for the Wildcats and will play against a number of his friends.
“I’m extremely excited about it, playing against some of my best friends should be a pretty cool experience,” Fogle said. “You focus in so much on the opponent you’re going to play and I’m going to be living with the kid I’m going to be going against.”
Barker says he and Fogle have talked about the matchup leading up to Saturday.
“We talk about this all the time,” Barker said. “It will be fun to go and play against him again. To see him on the other sideline will be cool for sure.”
Barker says the two and their families remain close throughout the year.
“I’m always at his house when we’re at home,” said Barker. “Our families are really close. I’m sure his family is excited for him to get to play against Kentucky and my family is excited for him to be at Eastern playing as much as he is.”
Barker is a junior who has appeared in eight games for the Wildcats over his first two seasons. Fogle is a redshirt senior who appeared in 10 games for the Colonels last season. He played in one game with Kentucky in 2014 before transferring to Eastern Kentucky.
Both players are hoping to see their first game action of 2017 on Saturday.
