Former Hogs coach Houston Nutt says Arkansas goes bowling in 2014

Former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Houston Nutt spoke at the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club earlier today and gave his thoughts on the current Razorbacks.
“I feel like this team can get six [wins],” Nutt said.
Six wins and a bowl appearance would be a welcomed step in the progression of this football team after finishing with a 3-9 record in 2013 and zero conference wins.
More than likely, Arkansas will need to take advantage of their non-conference schedule in order to reach six wins. The Razorbacks face their first non-conference opponent this weekend when they play Nicholls State. They’ll also take on Texas Tech, Northern Illinois and UAB for the rest of their non-conference schedule.
Nutt coached the Hogs from 1998-2007 and also experienced similar struggles that current head coach Bret Bielema and his staff are facing right now. During Nutt’s time at Arkansas, the 2004 and 2005 season were tough times for Nutt as the Razorbacks finished with a combined record of 9-13, missing bowl games in both seasons. Nutt believes it’s times of rebuilding like this when the team needs the fans’ support the most.
“You’ve got to be patient. You’ve got to keep believing. I know you are hurting,” Nutt said to those in attendance. “I know you want to win, but this where [the team] needs you the most.”
“I know how hard they’ve worked and how much better they’ve gotten,” Nutt added after the luncheon. “I just think it’s important to be patient. You see the improvement. You see them getting better. They just have to keep adding the pieces to the puzzle and then hopefully somehow you get to six this year, if not more.”
Arkansas takes the field again this Saturday at 4 p.m. EST to take on the Nicholls State Colonels.
