Former Alabama defensive back Shyheim Carter will be looking for a new NFL opportunity. Carter was named in a report listing Houston’s roster cuts.
Before landing with the Texans, Carter was a graduate assistant with Alabama. Carter landed an invite to the 2020 NFL combine, but because of an injury and the pandemic, he couldn’t participate in Alabama’s Pro Day last March.
An unsigned free agent, Carter spent part of 2020 with the New York Jets and then on the practice squad with the Atlanta Falcons.
Carter was with the Crimson Tide from 2016-2019, recording 101 tackles, 60 of those solo, and three interceptions-two of those were returned for touchdowns.
He was also a member of the 2017 national championship team and played in 14 games his sophomore year. Coming out of high school from Kentwood, Louisiana, Carter was the 1A Offensive Player of the Year by the Louisiana Coaches Association and Louisiana Sports Writers Association back in 2014 and 2015, according to the Houston Texans website.
But while at Alabama, he found success as a defensive back.
