The Vanderbilt Commodores hope to continue their incredible season at home against the No. 15 Missouri Tigers on Saturday, with both teams still searching for a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Tigers and Commodores have lost just once this season, both to Alabama.

As mentioned, the Commodores are off to a simply incredible start by their standards, and Diego Pavia is a big part of the reason why. Vanderbilt’s offense is legit, which helped fuel a massive win over LSU last week. They’ll need a similarly great offensive performance against a good Tigers defense Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, the Tigers defense is nasty. Mizzou ranks 2nd in the SEC behind Oklahoma in total yards allowed per game at 243. Texas is the only other team that has kept opponents to under 300 yards per game. Will it be enough against the Commodores?

This matchup has a great chance to be the best game of the day on Saturday, and it definitely could be the most consequential. Both these teams are 6-1 with a good loss to Alabama, and both are still alive for a spot in the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff.

All this talk about Diego Pavia is warranted, but don’t forget about Mizzou’s Beau Pribula either. The pair are similar in that they are both dynamic dual-threat guys, but Pribula might get a slight edge as a passer while Pavia earns that edge as a rusher. One thing is for sure: Both can lead scoring drives and both are capable of making massive plays in space.

Partly because of Pribula and Pavia’s excellence on the ground, the Tigers and Commodores are 2 of the top 3 rushing offenses in the league. Missouri leads the conference with 244 rushing yards per game while Vanderbilt sits at 213 yards per game.

That brings us to Ahmad Hardy, who could be the difference in this one. Hardy is a man amongst boys and perhaps the best running back in college football today. The ULM transfer has found the end zone 11 times this season and sits at 840 rushing yards on the year.

Expect a lot of points in this one.
