Hugh Freeze credits freshman LB for ‘changing’ the way Auburn plays on defense
Hugh Freeze is very thankful to have freshman linebacker Demarcus Riddick in the fold.
The former 4-star prospect has made a tremendous impact on Auburn’s defense in recent weeks. He didn’t begin the year in Auburn’s lineup, but he has emerged as one of the most important players on the Tigers defense.
“We changed when we started playing him,” Freeze said during his weekly press conference on Monday. “Not that others weren’t playing well in spots, but without someone that has the ability that can run, and tackle those dual-threat guys in the open field, it’s a problem.
“We had that [problem] all last year and part of this year and he’s made a difference in that because he has length and can run.”

Riddick earned his first-career start on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe. He’s been a fixture in the rotation for most of the second half of the season, which has produced strong results. After giving up north of 6 yards per play twice in the first 5 games, Auburn has not done so in any of its last 5 contests.
Riddick has accounted for 22 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 2 sacks so far in 2024.
Auburn will host Texas A&M this weekend.
