Hugh Freeze explains how he’s used ‘free time’ after relinquishing play-calling
Hugh Freeze handed over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Phillip Montgomery, and it’s left the Auburn head coach with a lot more free time.
Before this week, Freeze had been working with Montgomery on play-calling duties, taking over depending on the scenario. Now that Montgomery is handling play-calling duties, Freeze is finding himself with less to prepare for, giving him more free time.
On Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference, Freeze explained how he’s using that extra free time.
“Recruit, as much as we need to here to get the type of players that we need,” Freeze said. “And at the same time, try to really develop the relationships with me and our current roster in an effort to head off some of the new world of them looking elsewhere. I think that’s always going to be a challenge. And so me having some of that responsibility off of me some really gives me added time to do those things.”
As far as game day goes, Freeze has been able to treat game days like he normally would.
“Well, we’ve been a work in progress, I don’t think it’s any secret that I’ve been much more involved the last few weeks trying to get to a comfort level for me on game day and our players on game day, and our staff on game day,” Freeze said. “So game day has kind of back to normal for me the last few weeks for sure anyway.”
This week, Auburn takes on Arkansas as it looks to earn bowl eligibility.
