Auburn has fired Hugh Freeze during his third season coaching the Tigers. The news comes via multiple reports, including Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports and The Athletic.

Freeze’s firing comes with the Tigers 4-5 overall on the season, with a 1-5 mark in SEC play. Auburn went just 6-16 in SEC play under Freeze.

Auburn’s latest loss came against Kentucky, a home loss by the score of 10-3. The Tigers had a 4-game stretch against ranked SEC teams and dropped all contests by 10 points or fewer. Their remaining games are against Vanderbilt, Mercer and Alabama.

AU posted losing records in Freeze’s first 2 seasons. The Tigers ended 2023 6-7 after a Music City Bowl loss. They did not go bowling in 2024 with a 5-7 finish in the regular season.

For Freeze, it was his second stint as an SEC head coach. He previously spent 5 seasons at Ole Miss (2012-16), taking the Rebels to 4 bowl games, including a New Year’s Six Sugar Bowl win to cap the 2015 season.

Freeze’s Ole Miss tenure was marked by personal and program scandals. After multiple seasons away from college football, Freeze returned to the sport by taking the job at Liberty ahead of the 2019 season. He guided the Flames for 4 years, posting a 34-15 record with 4 bowl berths.
