If Alabama rallies to win SEC championship, Tide would set new title game comeback mark
Though Alabama was able to make it a one-score affair at halftime of Saturday’s SEC Championship Game, the Crimson Tide at one point trailed Georgia 21-7.
That means an Alabama win would make history.
No team has ever come back to win an SEC title game when trailing by 14 or more points, according to SEC communications director Chuck Dunlap. On top of that stat boding well for the No. 4 Bulldogs, Dunlap also tweeted that teams leading at halftime of the SEC Championship Game have lost only four times and have won six straight.
The largest deficit overcome to win a SEC Champ Game is 13 by Tennessee versus Auburn in 1997. The Volunteers trailed the Tigers 20-7 with 14:12 in the second quarter and eventually won 30-29. Alabama trailed Georgia by 14 at 21-7 today.

To make matters worse for No. 1 Alabama, it is 0-4 when losing at halftime of the league title game. Georgia, meanwhile, is 3-1 when leading in the annual contest.

But there’s still a chance the Crimson Tide can buck history, especially considering Nick Saban’s squad receives the ball to begin the second half down 21-14. It’ll be interesting to see if Alabama can once again mount an epic rally against the Bulldogs after erasing a 13-point deficit in last year’s national championship game.
