Indiana capped off one of the best seasons in college football history with a 27-21 win against Miami to win a national title and finish the season with the first ever 16-0 record in college football.

From Fernando Mendoza winning the Heisman Trophy to the defense putting together an elite season, there are many statistics that stand out in this dream season for the Hoosiers.

None so more than Indiana’s fumble record. After Lee Beebe Jr. lost a fumble in IU’s season-opener, the Hoosiers didn’t have another lost fumble for the entire rest of the season. Indiana is the only team since 2004 to go at least 12 consecutive games without losing a fumble.

The Hoosiers went their final 1,047 offensive plays and 15 games without losing a fumble, despite eight total fumbles. That’s according to ESPN Insights:

On defense, the Hoosiers forced 16 fumbles throughout the year, and recovered 11 of them. Indiana had only eight turnovers on the season, and forced 29 for a turnover margin of +21 that led the country. Arizona was second with a +18.

Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers at the top of the college football mountain right now, and will be looking to reload quickly to once again contend for next season.
