B1G at its finest: Iowa senator congratulates Hawkeyes for ‘big win’

Iowa’s go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Big Ten championship game sent Fox announcer Gus Johnson into a Bret Bielema-level football ecstasy.

Alas, Michigan State rallied with a 22-play drive that eventually found the end zone and drained almost all of the remaining clock in a 16-13 win. (Oh, and there was this awkward trophy exchange between Michigan State QB Connor Cook and former Ohio State RB Archie Griffin.)

But, as even SEC fans knew late Saturday night, the outcome ruined Iowa’s perfect season.

A senator from the great state, though, didn’t get the message.

Hoping to capitalize on the good feelings of a 13-0 Iowa team, Sen. Joni Ernst tweeted a hasty congratulations — to the wrong team.

Ernst graduated from Iowa State and probably doesn’t know much of Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard. At least her term doesn’t end until 2021.
