Isaac Nauta reveals his ‘welcome to the SEC moment’ came when Lorenzo Carter flipped him upside down
Isaac Nauta came into his first college football season with a ton of hype. A member of Georgia’s highly-touted 2016 recruiting class, Nauta spent the final season of his prep career at IMG Academy preparing for his arrival to Athens.
Sometimes, regardless of how hard you train and prepare, nothing can quite get you ready for stepping onto the field at the collegiate level and competing against some of the best players in the nation on the practice field for the first time. Needless to say, Nauta learned that the hard way.
In a video shared by Zach Klein, the sports director for WSB (ABC-TV) in Atlanta, Nauta recalled the first moment he realized he was no longer in high school.
“For me, I went out on the edge to block Lorenzo Carter and I pretty much gave it everything I had,” Nauta said. “I think I flipped upside down, I don’t remember — I kinda blacked out for a second. When I realized what was going on, I was on the ground and he was making the play.”
While Carter is no longer in Athens, he was the 66th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, Nauta is now a veteran charged with teaching the younger Bulldogs the lesson he learned that day on the practice field.
