Football fans are well familiar with the concept of Revis Island. In seasons past, New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis has been so effective that he essentially takes a receiver out of a game by “putting them on an island” with his lockdown coverage.
As of Sunday afternoon, A.J. Green can claim ownership of Revis Island. The former Georgia wideout put up a monster stat line of 12 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati’s 23-22 win over the Jets.
When Bengals QB Andy Dalton targeted Green with Revis covering him, the Bengals were a perfect 10-of-10 gaining 152 yards through the air according to NFL Research. As you probably guessed, Green’s touchdown grab came against Revis.
While not many NFL receivers are as talented as Green, the Jets might be reconsidering that $70 million deal they awarded Revis in 2015.
