Jabari Small ‘excited’ for return to football after offseason shoulder surgery
Jabari Small discussed what it has been like this offseason. The Tennessee RB had offseason shoulder surgery in January and wasn’t able to participate in spring practice.
Small was finally able to take part in fall camp and emphasized how excited he was after Friday’s practice.
“I haven’t played in a long time. So I was just excited to get back out there, get back in a groove of things. And honestly just trying to push myself. just obviously trying to get better from last year (and) become more physical as a player.
“Just itching to get back out there.”
Small is coming off of a 2022 campaign where he had 840 scrimmage yards and 15 total touchdowns in 13 games played.
Small shared touches in the Tennessee backfield last season with fellow RB Jaylen Wright. Wright led the team with 875 yards rushing and also had 10 touchdowns.
Wright and Small should once again take up the majority of snaps in the Volunteers’ backfield again in 2023. The pairing will be an important part of the Tennessee offense this season.
Fans can see the improvements Wright and Small have made during the offseason in the season opener against Virginia on Sept. 2.
That game will take place in Nashville, Tennessee at Nissan Stadium at Noon ET on ABC.
