Jackson Arnold showered with expletives upon return to Oklahoma

Perhaps the biggest storyline that will be unwound during this afternoon’s matchup between the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners and the No. 22 Auburn Tigers out in Norman will be the return of Jackson Arnold to the stadium he called home the past couple of seasons.

The current Auburn signal caller actually committed to the Sooners out of high school as a 5-star recruit, and was viewed by many as the next up to inherit the mantle of star Oklahoma quarterback.

This wasn’t meant to be, however, as Arnold struggled with consistency and injuries in his first and only season as the starter in 2024, eventually entering the transfer portal last winter and landing on The Plains in Hugh Freeze‘s system for 2025.

Now, he’ll be looking to lead his new team to a massive early-season victory on the road against his former team, and in front of the fans that used to pack out Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to see him lead the Sooners.

It was always going to be unlikely that Arnold would receive any sort of warm welcome from the Oklahoma faithful, but the response he got from the Sooners’ student section was pretty crazy, as he was showered with boos and expletives as he took the field for pre-game warm-ups.

If it wasn’t clear beforehand, this warm welcome erased any doubts about how Sooner fans feel about their former quarterback, and these jeers are only going to grow louder as a capacity crowd of over 83,000 makes their way into the stands.

If Arnold wants to lead Auburn to a road win, then he’ll have to lock in and stay above the noise, which is sure to be deafening all game long.
