Being a backup quarterback is a tough job, and for Georgia’s Jacob Eason, it’s even tougher since he used to be the starter before he got injured in Week 1 and Jake Fromm took over.
However, Eason doesn’t sound bitter about his new backup role, and has been nothing but supportive of the true freshman.
As the Bulldogs prepare for the College Football Playoff semifinals against Oklahoma at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, Eason said he’s taking every practice seriously so he’ll be ready if he needs to help his team (via OnlineAthens.com):
โLike coach (Jim) Chaney preaches, itโs one play away,โ Eason said. โJust like whatโs happened to me. Thatโs why youโve got to stay in the game plan, youโve got to stay alert at practice, youโve got to take every rep seriously.โ
Eason isn’t expecting to play on New Year’s Day, but he added that he’ll be ready for whatever happens against the Sooners:
โThat moment, I doubt it will come,โ Eason said, โI hope it never does come, but if it will, Iโll be ready.โ
Eason hasn’t given an answer about his future in Athens yet, but rumors are swirling about a possible transfer. Where he ends up next year remains to be seen, but he at least hopes to have a championship ring to take with him wherever he goes.
