Ole Miss recently added some depth as Navy transfer and hybrid defender Jacob Springer announced his commitment to join Lane Kiffin’s program.

Springer started the previous two seasons for Navy, the Midshipmen went 11-2 last season, where he racked up 101 tackles, eight sacks, two interceptions and four passes defended during that time. Springer garnered Second-Team All-AAC honors in 2019 after registered a team-high 16 tackles for loss last season.

Due to current NCAA transfer rules, Springer will have to sit out the upcoming season but will have two seasons of eligibility in Oxford starting in 2021.

During his time with Navy, Springer played the “striker” position, which is a hybrid safety/linebacker role in the team’s defense. It’s unclear which position he will play in Oxford but his 6-foot-1, 206-pound frame suggests he may be best-suited for a role in the secondary at the SEC level.
