Jaden Rashada will be a starting quarterback in Week 1 of the 2023 college football season. Arizona State is reportedly going with Rashada as QB1 against Southern Utah.

Rashada was rated 4-stars, the No. 7 quarterback and No. 81 prospect overall in the Class of 2023 on the 247Sports Composite. He flipped his commitment from Miami to UF on Nov. 10, 2022. Rashada followed through with signing his National Letter of Intent to Florida on Dec. 21, but things went south soon after he signed.

It was widely reported that the now-defunct Gator Collective failed to deliver on promises for a lucrative name, image and likeness deal with Rashada. According to The Athletic, Rashada was set to be paid $500,000 upfront and receive monthly payments over the next 4 years, bringing the NIL deal’s value to $13 million over his freshman-to-senior seasons.

Rashada was released from his Florida LOI on Jan. 20 and signed with ASU on Feb. 2. Interestingly enough, the Sun Devils went with Florida transfer Emory Jones as their QB1 to open the 2022 season.

The Rashada situation left Florida without a scholarship quarterback in its 2023 recruiting class. The Gators have 3 scholarship QBs on the 2022 depth chart, short of head coach Billy Napier’s preferred number for the position.

Napier recently named former Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz as Florida’s starting quarterback for the Gators’ Aug. 31 contest at No. 14 Utah. Mertz beat out Jack Miller, a 2022 transfer from Ohio State who made his debut in the Las Vegas Bowl. Max Brown, a 2022 signee, is Florida’s third scholarship quarterback on the 2023 roster.
