It didn’t take long for Jake Bentley to make a name for himself at South Carolina.

USC’s starting quarterback was honored as the school’s Male New Student-Athlete of the Year at Monday’s Gamecock Gala.

Bentley graduated high school following his junior year and reclassified as a class of 2016 prospect to enroll at South Carolina. While early enrollee Brandon McIlwain and redshirt senior Perry Orth split snaps at quarterback through the Gamecocks first six games, Bentley was handed the job in Week 8 against UMass, and kept the job for the rest of the season, including back-to-back SEC wins over Missouri and Tennessee.

In seven games, Bentley was 125-of-190 for 1,420 yards. He also threw for more than twice as many touchdowns (9) as interceptions (4).
