Jalen Hurts was phenomenal all night long on the biggest stage for the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite losing the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts dialed up 4 total touchdowns and made plays all night long for the Eagles.
After the game, head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the performance of his quarterback with some high marks in his comments. Sirianni saw Hurts playing with “complete control” in the Super Bowl and labeled it the best Hurts has played in their two years together.
“To me, Jalen played the best game I’ve seen him play in the two years that we’ve been together,” Sirianni said. “He was outstanding. I really thought he was in complete control. He did things with his legs in the run game. He did things with his arm in the pass game, made some unbelievable throws, unbelievable reads. I thought he played outstanding. And you know you really look at the game and that was good for the NFL in the sense that the two best quarterbacks in the NFL played against each other on the biggest stage in the biggest lights. And Jalen played great.”
When it was all said and done, Hurts finished with 304 passing yards while completing 27-of-38 passes with 70 rushing yards in the game. His 3 rushing touchdowns set a Super Bowl record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
Along with his rushing exploits, Hurts and the Eagles wound up on the wrong side of history in the Super Bowl. According to ESPN’s Paul Hembekides, Hurts is the only QB to account for 4 touchdowns in a Super Bowl loss.
The Eagles are also the first team in the NFL to lose a conference championship or Super Bowl when scoring 35+ points. NFL teams were 39-0 all-time in those scenarios prior to Sunday.
Jalen Hurts is the only QB to produce 4 touchdowns in a Super Bowl loss.
Entering Sunday, teams were 39-0 when scoring 35+ points in the conference championship (24-0) & Super Bowl (15-0).
39-0.
