Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts led his team down the field late in the fourth quarter for a clutch, game-winning touchdown drive on Saturday night in Starkville.
Hurts played about as well as a quarterback could, showing poise and composure, while guiding his team six plays for 68 yards and ending up in the end zone.
Hurts found DeVonta Smith for a 26-yard, go-ahead touchdown pass with 25 seconds left, and that ended up being enough for the Tide to get the job done with a 31-24 win.
What was Hurts thinking about before trotting out for that game-winning drive?
Last year’s national championship game.
Hurts said he couldn’t help but think about how Clemson’s Deshaun Watson drove the field with just over a minute left to beat his own Tide for a title last year, according to reporters:
Jalen Hurts: “I couldn’t help but think of the national championship game. We had 1:09 left. Deshaun Watson had 1:09 to go and he went down and won the game.”
