Jalen Milroe ‘absolutely should come back’ for 2025 season at Alabama, says Jordan Rodgers

Jalen Milroe has the chance to jump to the 2025 NFL Draft after completing the 2024 season at Alabama. However, Jordan Rodgers believes the quarterback would benefit from another season in Tuscaloosa after a particularly dreadful performance in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Speaking with Paul Finebaum after the game, Rodgers and the popular SEC Network host admitted it was one of the worst performances you could see from Milroe in the bowl game.
“It’s almost improbable how poorly (he played) — 2 fumbles and an interception in the first 3 possessions,” said Finebaum.
Rodgers was quick to follow up by admitting he doesn’t believe Milroe will be back in 2025. However, he absolutely wants Milroe to take advantage of another season.
According to Rodgers, there was not enough growth from Milroe in the passing game:
“He’s not going to come back I don’t think, but I think he absolutely should come back. You didn’t see growth this year, you didn’t see a guy develop as more than just an athlete,” said Rodgers. “And he’s dynamic. When he takes off and run… some of the stuff that he does is unbelievable, but he did not develop as a passer within the pocket.”
Against Michigan, Milroe was particularly bad. He committed 3 first-half turnovers with a pair of fumbles and an interception while going 16-for-32 through the air with 192 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Milroe was also sacked 5 times, and Rodgers pointed to a QB who was slow working through his progressions, and that’s because Milroe didn’t develop enough during the season.
“You watch early in this game against Michigan, his feet were slow, getting the reads, getting through projections was late… I think it was just because you saw a QB who didn’t develop throughout the season, I think that’s a problem,” Rodgers explained. “I wish he would come back for another year, I think he needs it.”
If this is the end for Milroe, he ends on a particularly low note. The Crimson Tide were left out of the Playoff after managing just 3 points in a late-season loss to Oklahoma and saw their streak of 10-win seasons snapped with the loss to Michigan.
