Alabama running back Jam Miller has opened up about the injury that’s sidelined him to start the 2025 season.
Miller confirmed he dislocated his collarbone during Saturday’s preseason scrimmage and said that it’s feeling better “now that it’s back in place.” He shared that news with Alex Boothe on Tuesday:
Head coach Kalen DeBoer said Miller underwent surgery Saturday evening and will miss some time, though the team is hopeful he can return for the Tide’s SEC opener against No. 5 Georgia on September 27.
Miller, a 5-foot-10, 221-pound senior, was preparing to be the Crimson Tide’s primary rusher after racking up 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 attempts in 2024.
In the meantime, Alabama will lean on a committee approach at practice. Sophomores Richard Young and Daniel Hill, who combined for 207 yards and three touchdowns last season, will likely spearhead the backfield in Miller’s absence. Louisiana transfer Dre Washington and true freshman AK Dear are also expected to handle significant reps as the Tide tries to keep the ground game effective.
If all goes well, Miller could be back in time to face the Bulldogs, giving the Tide a much-needed boost to stay on track for a big SEC campaign. Until then, DeBoer is confident in their current group to keep the offense moving.
