The New York Jets didn’t think former LSU S Jamal Adams would still be on the board when they were on the clock with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

However, when they saw that he was indeed still available, they didn’t hesitate to make him the newest member of their team.

Afterwards, the grateful ex-Tiger spoke with the media, saying he’s happy to be heading to New York. Here’s what Adams said in his post-draft press conference:

On the Jets keeping their word after telling him they’d pick him if he was still available:

“They told me it was a no-brainer they were coming to get me. They kept their word and it means everything to me. I feel like everything happens for a reason. God had a plan and I just stuck to it. It’s great to be a Jet.”

On how his dad, a former New York Giant, feels about his son playing for the Jets:

“I know he’s excited. It’s crazy that he played for the Giants and now I’m a Jet. I know he’s not afraid to tell the Giants fans he’s part of the Jet family now. He’s definitely, right now as we speak, I’m pretty sure he’s bleeding green and white.”

On former teammate Leonard Fournette going to the Jaguars at No. 4:

“What he said about me is definitely what I’d say about him. We had our battles back and forth. He’s one of the best running backs — if not the best running back — I’ve ever been against. Leonard’s going to do tremendous things in Jacksonville and it was made for him to go there and be a part of that program. Leonard’s a great guy and I’m pulling for him.”

On his plans for his first NFL paycheck:

“First NFL paycheck is going to Chase Bank. This one right here, I’m not spending — trust me. I might look fly, but it’s quality over quantity. I promise you, it’s going in the bank.”

On his familiarity with the New York area:

“We used to have a house in Hackensack up there. My mom’s from Yonkers and my sister’s from Jersey. Pops played up there and now I’m playing up there. It’s an amazing feeling.”

On moving on from LSU:

“Everybody at LSU, I can’t thank them enough. I’m going to miss everybody. Three years went by fast and all I can say is ‘Go Tigers!’”

On his red carpet suit:

“I had to do it big with the suit. I felt like I was the best dressed. Nobody can compete with me. For me to sit here and tell you I wasn’t the best dressed, I’d be lying to you.”
