Jamal Murray was emotional on stage after his Denver Nuggets clinched the NBA title over the Miami Heat.

With the crowd roaring at every statement, Murray soaked in the ovation.

“It’s just an amazing feeling,” he told Lisa Salters. “Blood, sweat and tears to get back to this point. Everybody on the team here, everybody on the floor believed in me, believed in me to get back to myself. We proved a lot of doubters wrong. I mean look at this.”

Murray, who was drafted No. 7 overall in 2016 out of Kentucky, missed the 2021-22 season to recover from knee surgery, and he averaged a career-high 6.2 assists in his return to the lineup this season.

That number climbed to 7.1 in the playoffs after he had 10, 10, 10 and 12 assists that Murray has posted against the Heat in becoming the first player in history to reach double-digit assist totals in each of his first four games in the NBA Finals. Murray had 14 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds in the clinching win on Monday.
