Jarrett Guarantano is expected to be one of the favorites in the battle to be Tennessee’s starting quarterback this offseason, but he’ll need to show improvement from a disappointing 2017 campaign.

Fortunately for Tennessee fans, the rising redshirt sophomore seems to be feeling more confident as the summer approaches.

In fact, he attended Josh Dobbs’s youth QB camp this weekend to assist the former Tennessee quarterback, saying he has enjoyed working with new coach Jeremy Pruitt and his staff (via 247Sports):

“Oh, absolutely,” Guarantano said, according to Knoxville’s WVLT-TV. “It’s definitely a blessing. I think that they’re gonna help the team out tremendously, and I think that we’re all loving it.”

Guarantano said his improved confidence is the key, and credited Pruitt and his staff for helping build that confidence:

“I definitely feel more confident in my abilities,” he said. “I think the coaching staff has definitely helped me out. Everybody’s just ready for fall camp to start, so we’re able to just compete against each other and just get the thing rolling.”

The Vols also brought in Stanford graduate transfer Keller Chryst this offseason, so Guarantano will have to prove himself before he wins the Week 1 job. However, if he’s feeling more confident, there’s a chance he could indeed retain his starting job.
