Jauan Jennings named ‘Tennessean’ football player of the year

Tennessee commit Jauan Jennings was named the 2014 high school football player of the year by the Tennessean newspaper in Nashville. Jennings threw for 2,155 yards, 22 touchdowns and three interceptions on 125-of-219 passing, while also rushing for 883 yards and 17 touchdowns.

“He can play quarterback at the next level,” Blackman coach Philip Shadowens told the Tennessean of his senior quarterback. “There’s a reason all of those schools offered as a quarterback. If he doesn’t play quarterback, he definitely has the talent to play somewhere else.”

Jennings ranks as the No. 171 overall prospect and the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback for the 2015 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The four-star athlete has made it apparent he plans to play quarterback when he enrolls at UT this January.
“(Enrolling early) wasn’t something I was looking forward to doing,” Jennings told the Tennessean. “It just came out of nowhere. My motivation was getting up there early, learn the system and meet the coaches and get used to the environment.”
