Jayden Daniels excited LSU fans everywhere when he announced he would be returning for another year with the Tigers in 2023. Ahead of Monday’s Citrus Bowl, Daniels discussed that decision with the media.
“I took my time on evaluating and gathering information,” Daniels told reporters. “But ultimately, it was the best decision for me to come back and accomplish things in college I feel like I need to grow on. I feel like I have unfinished business at college, so I wanted to come back and compete for a National Championship.”
Daniels had LSU in the championship hunt for much of his first season. The Tigers entered Rivalry Week ranked No. 5. Now, Daniels is trying to end his first LSU season on a high note as the Tigers look to snap a 2-game losing skid with a bowl victory.
Heading into 2023, Daniels sees plenty to build on after his first year in Brian Kelly’s program.
“What I take for next season, really the growth that I had this past season. I had so much more football that I needed to learn that I thought I didn’t, so there is another level that I can tap into as far as growth,” Daniels said Saturday.
After winning the SEC West in Year 1, he’s ready for the grind of another year in the conference.
“… (G)oing out, actually playing in the SEC instead of just watching it on TV. It’s a different level,” Daniels said. “So you guys know that each and every week is going to be a grind — each and every week in the off-season, you have to treat it the same way.”
The Tigers won 6 SEC games in Daniels’ first season. Daniels and company will look to improve on that number in 2023.
