Jayden Daniels has had an outstanding rookie season, and on Sunday, he set a new mark for first-year NFL players.

Daniels and the Washington Commanders are playing host to the Cleveland Browns during Week 5. After losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the season, the Commanders seem to be settling in quite nicely under Daniels and first-year head coach Dan Quinn, entering Sunday’s game on a 3-game winning streak.

And with 7 minutes, 23 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, Daniels had posted 204 passing yards and 77 rushing yards. He has now totaled over 1,000 passing yards and over 250 rushing yards through his first five games, making him the first player to do so in the history of the NFL:

Daniels was an immense talent during his time in college, culminating with his Heisman Trophy season in 2023 with LSU and being selected first overall by the Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With the NFL season not even a third of the way through, Daniels has continued to showcase his star quality. He’s the runaway early favorite for Rookie of the Year honors as the Commanders appear to be a possible NFC contender for the first time in a while.
