Jaydn Ott, Cal’s star running back who suffered a right ankle injury last weekend against UC Davis, is probable to take the field against Auburn in Week 2 according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Cal head coach Justin Wilcox said earlier in the week that he expected Ott to be available against the Tigers, so there’s no surprise for the Bears heading into a rematch against Auburn.
The junior running back is among Cal’s best players and rushed for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns a season ago. Ott rushed for 2 touchdowns last week during Cal’s win over UC Davis, totaling 49 yards on 14 carries. He ran well in last year’s game against the Tigers, totaling 20 rushes for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Cal star tailback Jaydn Ott remains probable to play at Auburn today and will be a game-time decision with a right ankle issue, per a source. Ott will go through warm-ups and a decision will be made. Ott earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors from the coaches last year. pic.twitter.com/D3dDQZPQNI

Cal played the Tigers well last season, falling 14-10 in a game that could have gone either way. Auburn has taken several steps forward since last year while Cal continues to struggle with the reality of being an underfunded program on the west coast in the ACC. And despite it all, Wilcox has done a good job and led the Bears to a bowl game last season.
We’ll see if this year’s matchup is as close. Kickoff between Cal and Auburn is set for 3:30 on ESPN2 from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
