JC Latham wants to keep expectations high for Alabama in 2023.

The Crimson Tide haven’t won the National Championship since 2020, ceding the last 2 titles to SEC rival Georgia. At SEC Media Days on Wednesday, Latham was asked about the prospect of Alabama not being picked to win the SEC for the first time since 2015.

“Fuel to the fire,” Latham said. “I know we’re going to go out there, compete, dominate and do what we have to do to win. I know we’re going to win it all and go undefeated. So whatever anybody outside of our family says, essentially isn’t what matters.”

When asked about the Bulldogs and whether or not they’ve set a new “standard” in college football, Latham rejected the premise.

“I respect the fact that they have won back-to-back [National Championships],” Latham said. “I know that’s not easy at all. I see the work that they put in. But at the same time … their standard is great, I don’t think it’s above our standard though.”

Latham told reporters that he feels lowered expectations for Alabama in 2023 are “disrespectful.”

“I don’t appreciate that at all,” he said.

Latham’s expectations for Alabama’s offensive line, specifically, are also very high.

“We’re gonna shock the world,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “We got a really physical group, guys committed to being great.”

He also said the offensive line “will not settle” for anything less than the Joe Moore Award, which is given annually to the top offensive line in college football. Latham also said his goal is to win the Outland Trophy this season.

Latham is entering his junior season at Alabama. He’s expected to start at right tackle for the Crimson Tide in 2023.
