Jeff Landry, Louisiana Governor, proclaims Sugar Bowl site safe, says he’ll attend Georgia-Notre Dame
Jeff Landry, Louisiana’s governor, spoke at a press briefing regarding the suspected terror attack that took place in New Orleans early Wednesday morning.
While Landry covered numerous topics related to public safety during his time at the podium, he also addressed potential concerns for fans who are considering whether or not to attend the Sugar Bowl on Thursday night in New Orleans.
“For those citizens out there who are thinking, ‘Oh man, do I really want to go to the Sugar Bowl tomorrow?’ I’ll tell you one thing,” Landry said. “Your governor’s gonna be there. That is proof, believe you me, that that facility and this city is safer today than it was yesterday.”
The Sugar Bowl matchup between Notre Dame and Georgia was postponed by 24 hours following the act of violence that took place near the corner of Bourbon Street and Canal Street early Wednesday morning. The attack, which killed at least 15 people according to the latest reports, is still being investigated by the authorities.
Both Notre Dame and Georgia have confirmed that all members of their traveling party are safe. They are expected to “shelter in place” at their respective hotels during this time. One Georgia student was “critically injured” during the attack, per the University.
The Sugar Bowl is slated to kick off at 8:45 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
