Jeff Lebby was at an Oklahoma coaches luncheon on Thursday when a fan hit the offensive coordinator with a question right between the eyes: Are you going to score against Texas this year?
With a 49-0 loss to Texas last season, the Sooners suffered their first 3-game losing streak since 1998, and that year was the previous time Oklahoma was shut out. The previous largest shutout loss came in 1945, 47-0 defeat to Oklahoma State. The Sooners mustered just 195 total yards against the Longhorns last year, including 39 passing yards.
The first meeting between the Red River rivals since 1998 with neither ranked was not memorable as it was also the highest-scoring game for Texas in the series that dates to 1900. Needless to say, the fans are looking for something different this time.
“If we don’t (score),” Lebby said, “I probably won’t be sitting here next year.”
