Jeff Lebby’s Mississippi State Bulldogs had an almost impossible task last weekend- taking on the Georgia Bulldogs.

Lebby’s squad put up a good fight, losing by just 10. However, Kirby Smart shoving Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren Jr. took some of the attention away from the game. Smart and Van Buren both addressed the incident, but neither made much of a deal about it.

On Wednesday’s SEC teleconference, Lebby discussed Smart reaching out to him and his QB in an “immediate” fashion after the incident. The coach also said that Smart’s actions have satisfied him.

“I’m satisfied,” said Lebby. “Kirby reached out to me right after the game and reached out to Mike. There was great dialogue and communication there.”

Lebby was also asked if he was surprised that Smart reached out.

“If I was on the other side of it I would have done something incredibly similar. And it was. It was immediate,” said Lebby.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey even weighed in, admitting Smart should have been penalized. However, no penalty was called, and it appears all sides are now ready to move on.

It’s been a tough year for Lebby’s squad, who fell to 1-5 after the Georgia loss. The next test for the team will be against Texas A&M in Week 8.
