Jeremiah Smith had 6 catches for 43 yards in Ohio State’s season-opening win over Texas.

On one play against Grambling State in the Buckeyes’ home opener, he more than doubled that number.

The Buckeyes held a 7-0 lead over the Tigers with 6 minutes gone by in the 1st quarter. On a 1st-and-10 play, Julian Sayin uncorked a deep ball near the left sideline to Smith, who took it all the way for an 88-yard touchdown as the lead swelled to 14-0.

Here’s a look at the play:

Smith was the No. 1 recruit in the country when he signed with Ryan Day and the Buckeyes out of the class of 2024. He made good on the hype surrounding him, recording 1,315 yards and pulling in 15 touchdowns for the national champions. He finished the year with the fourth-highest single-season receiving yardage total and the second-most touchdown catches in a season in program history. The Big Ten Freshman and Receiver of the Year was also named a Freshman All-American and a 2nd-team overall All-American.

Smith will be one of the players to watch in college football in 2025 as he looks to make a further case for himself as the top receiver in the nation. What’s more, he’s only a sophomore, so he has plenty of time to make even more of a mark on the Buckeyes’ record books.
