The Tennessee Volunteers open their season against the Syracuse Orange in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Aug. 30 at 12 p.m. ET.

In an off-season full of drama, much of it surrounded Tennessee and its quarterback situation. Nico Iamaleava, who was the starter as a freshman last season for Tennessee, transferred to UCLA after reports came out that he wanted to be closer to his family in the Los Angeles area, as well as disputes over his NIL compensation.

Tennessee has moved on to quarterback Joey Aguilar, and it seems his team has confidence in him that he will deliver.

Tennessee linebacker Jeremiah Telander was asked about his quarterback on SEC Nation before their matchup with Syracuse, and he shared his confidence in Aguilar.

“First of all, he’s just a great leader. He’s building relationships with every single person in that building,” Telander said. “This is his last year of college football, and I know he’s going to let it sling, so I’m excited to see what he’s got to do, and it’s going to be fun.”

Aguilar was previously the quarterback at Appalachian State before he transferred to Tennessee. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. He’ll look to take the next step forward in his season with Tennessee.
