Jeremy Johnson is taking advantage of an opportunity to continue his football career, and he’s doing it outside the United States.

The former Auburn quarterback has signed with the Monterrey Parrilleros ahead of the 2022 Mexican American Professional Football League season. Johnson becomes the first foreign player on Monterrey’s roster as the team builds toward its April 29 opener against Caudillos de Chihuahua.

Liga FAM-YOX is a nine-team league returning from a two-year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic. Johnson most recently played with the West Virginia Roughriders of the American Arena League in 2019. At Auburn from 2013 through 2016, Johnson completed 179-of-282 passes for 2,223 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and ran for 210 yards and nine touchdowns on 73 carries, AL.com reported.

Here’s part of the team announcement:

A little less than two months before the start of the 2022 Mexican American Football Season (FAM-YOX), the Monterrey Parrilleros have signed their first starting quarterback, Jeremy Lamar Johnson, a former Division I Auburn Tigers player NCAA.

With this signing, the first foreign player who will be part of the royal team during his debut season in FAM-YOX was confirmed. This with the main objective of forming a solid base in the attack and looking for a great show for the fans of the city.

Coach Edmundo Reyes was excited about the great step taken by the franchise with his new hire and assured that “it is taking place in the direction of the main objective, which is to build a team worthy of the city of Monterrey.”

“The height is one of his strengths that allows him to have a visual dominance of the defense, enhancing his aerial game. He is a player with great football IQ and knowledge of defensive coverage. The power and accuracy of his arm, combined with his experience playing in the SEC (Southeastern Conference), the highest level of Division I in college football in the United States, results in a high-impact quarterback in our attack”, he pointed.

In addition to his physical qualities, coach Mundo spoke about his style of play and fascinating mobility inside the pocket, being one of his main characteristics on the grid. As if that were not enough, Jeremy has a special ability to run with the ball, which will make him one of the most dangerous players on offense. “Trust me when you have a QB that size running the ball, it’s not easy to take him down,” he concluded.
