Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy and will miss the first 10 games of the 2016 season.
The former Alabama star has had a troubled NFL career, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones plans to stand by McClain through the suspension:
“Disappointed is the word,” Jones told the Star-Telegram. “It is a recognition that these dependency issues are a difficult thing to address. We are proud of everything that we’ve gotten from Rolando. His aptitude as a football player is almost unsurpassed as one of the best that I’ve seen. We all say it’s such a waste, but with us, knowing him, we’ve got the best that he’s done in pro football.”
McClain played for the Crimson Tide from 2007 to 2009, winning a BCS national championship following the 2009 season.
He was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
