Jersey numbers revealed for Georgia signees Brenton Cox, Justin Fields

The uniform numbers of two of Georgia’s high-profile incoming recruits have apparently already been decided.
Defensive end Brenton Cox and quarterback Justin Fields will each wear No. 1 when they’re on the field, Cox said following his commitment and signing ceremony Wednesday, according to Dawg Post. Of course running back Sony Michel currently wears No. 1, but he is ticketed for the NFL after this season.
Previous players to wear No. 1 include wide receivers Andre Hastings and Mohammed Massaquoi.
Jersey numbers have long been discussed in recruiting as a carrot to get certain players to one school. Some schools even place the prospect’s high school number, or future college number, around a facility or on an SUV during an official visit.
Single digit numbers are often the most coveted, but given the talent coming to Georgia in this class alone, those will be even more hard to come by in future years.
COX: I will be wearing No. 1 on defense; Justin will be wearing No. 1 on offense.
