The injury bug struck Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in the offseason as he underwent surgery in May after breaking his foot. Despite missing the first few weeks of training camp, the former Alabama star has been cleared to participate, being removed from New York’s physically unable to perform list on Monday.
The 3rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft will look to capitalize on a strong 2020 campaign that saw him record a team-high 7.0 sacks. Along with that, the Jets will be under the guidance of 1st-year head coach Robert Saleh as they look to make headway in the AFC East.
Williams met with the media on Monday and spoke of the knowledge of the professional game he earned in his first 2 years in the league — including some fundamental adjustments — while setting the bar for himself for greater success.
“I learned so much from Year 1 to Year 2 that I feel I haven’t scratched the surface,” he said, according to NJ.com. “Going back to how I redid my whole entire stance, all the way over, you learn that in like Little League. Me having to relearn how to get back in my stance so I can unleash the explosiveness that I have [to] perform in this scheme well…[tells] you I haven’t scratched the surface on what I can become in the league.”
The Jets open their regular season on Sept. 12, as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers.
