The Gators’ quarterback woes may finally be over thanks to a former Notre Dame quarterback.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced a relaxing of the league’s grad transfer rules Friday, meaning that Zaire, who has expressed an interest in coming to Florida, may soon get his wish.
As for Florida head coach Jim McElwain, this ho-hum Friday in the offseason has suddenly become one of the biggest days since he arrived in Gainesville.
Mac on graduate transfers: ‘Yeah, our phone has been ringing off the hook this afternoon. There is a lot of interest in the Gators.’

McElwain and the Gators now have some work to do, the most important part of which will be naming a starting QB that can lead them to their third consecutive SEC East crown.
The odds are in Zaire’s favor, but he will face stiff competition from young QBs Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask, who squared off in Florida’s spring game.
McElwain’s Florida teams have been known for their defense, but the former Alabama offensive coordinator may finally get to show off his chops as an offensive guru – the likes of which got him the Florida job in the first place.
