The University of Florida held its annual Orange and Blue game Friday night in The Swamp.

Obviously, all eyes were on the quarterbacks, and that mainly meant redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks. The buzz centering around Franks this spring was mainly positive, and he certainly looked like the No. 1 signal caller Friday night. Franks has battled Kyle Trask during spring practice, and Jim McElwain confirmed that Franks is ahead of the others exiting spring practice.

Franks finished 8-of-14 for 119 yards and one touchdown Friday night.

Early enrollee Kadarius Toney flashed some athleticism at the position, and he’ll likely see some snaps this fall based on his exciting playmaking ability. But he’s not exactly in a quarterback battle with Franks and Trask at this point. But if Toney’s passing can improve, things could get interesting. Toney could see time at multiple positions this fall, including quarterback.

Regardless of the quarterback position, running back Jordan Scarlett looks like he’s ready to have a big year, along with wide receiver Antonio Callaway.

Head coach Jim McElwain met with the media following Friday night’s spring game, and here’s what he had to say:

  • I’m excited about this team and what they accomplished this spring. We’re going to be alright.
  • The biggest thing about tonight was getting the young guys some time in the Swamp in front of some people in the stands.
  • Would like us to be more accurate with the ball at quarterback. We missed some throws, especially in the red zone.
  • Thought all QBs did a “decent” job.
  • Injury-wise: Joseph Putu got his “eggs scrambled” a little bit.
  • Down in the red zone, we missed three throws that were touchdowns. We have to produce down there.
  • Feleipe Franks is ahead in the quarterback race. Kadarius Toney needs to touch the ball for us.
  • Franks’ consistency and a little bit of his escapability helped set him apart.
  • The two quarterbacks were comfortable. They weren’t antsy.
  • Thought the offensive line did “okay.”
  • We’re better up front and excited about the offensive line this year compared to last year.
