Florida head coach Jim McElwain is always good for an interesting quote, and he weighed in on several key issues during Monday’s teleconference.

McElwain on new proposed redshirt rule:
We’ll just do what they tell us. Why not just let them play? Give them five years to play and call it what it is… I do think that’s a good rule.

On the OL:
“This is the best (unit) since I’ve been here. There were some numbers issues, and that’s nothing against anyone that was here, but that unit has consistently gotten better. That unit will be a true strength for the Gators… I’m excited to see them play.”

On promoting Randy Shannon to DC:
“I’m excited for Geoff Collins. We had five guys that I was approached about this offseason. That’s awesome, hate to lose them but it’s recognition for what we’ve done. Having a guy on staff, we didn’t have to change terminology, now he’ll put his own flair on it but having a guy on staff has been really good.”

On Rawleigh Williams:
“In the big picture, I have such respect for the decision. There’s so much more to life. He’s a heck of a player and I can tell he’s probably one heck of a person.”
